Divine Wisdom vs Human Wisdom…”but we preach Christ crucified…” (1 Cor. 1:23).
St. Paul urged the Christians in Corinth to depend on Jesus’ saving work for them. Sometimes humans want God to give miracles, maybe healing or success to prove He loves them. Sometimes humans want philosophical or scientific proofs about His existence and His love. Sinful humans want God to act in ways they decide, not in ways He decides.
God decided to forgive all the sins and offenses of all people through the suffering and death of His holy, innocent Son. And this forgiveness of all sins and offenses is a gift. This is the wisdom of God that He desires all to receive and believe: He freely forgives.
