Matthew 9:35-10:20 records Jesus’ compassion on the crowds for “they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” He then urged prayer for laborers for the field and went on to choose His 12 apostles. Jesus meant to minister to the crowds through the ages through His apostles and their writings, all which point people back to Him, the Great Shepherd. Through the Scriptures we hear and know God, this is exactly Jesus’ design. He wants us to know Him!
